Is a Retirement Village Right for My Parents?

We’re often contacted by the children of perspective residents to discuss whether we think a retirement village would be suitable for their parents. Extended family members, quite rightly, have their loved one’s best interests at heart and want to be involved in the moving process. Here we seek to ease any concerns you may have about your parents moving to a residential park home. We also list the various reasons; we think an over 50’s community might be a good option for your mum and dad in their later years.

Social life

One of the major benefits of a retirement village is that your parents will be living as part of a community. They will be surrounded by like-minded neighbours, who they can meet for a coffee and a slice of cake. Our over 50’s residential village in Glasgow has a fantastic community spirit. Some of our residents meet neighbours on a daily basis and enjoy regular day trips from the park. This will help put your mind at rest knowing your parents won’t be on their own all day. Spending time with others will help alleviate loneliness and boredom as well as giving your mum and dad something to look forward to each day.

Maintain independence

Many children worry about their parents in a large family home. We hear stories from individuals who think the upkeep is too much and that their mum and dad should downsize to reduce the number of household and garden chores. Many older people, however want to maintain some level of independence and are not ready to move into assisted living. A residential park home is a fantastic compromise. You can rest safe in the knowledge that your parents are living in a safe, modern and comfortable home. They can maintain total independence and can call upon our maintenance team should they need any assistance with jobs around the house.

Likewise, we do not offer any healthcare services at Red Deer Village. But should a resident need extra help during their elderly years they can arrange for an external care provider to visit their home.

Fantastic facilities

Red Deer Village has a wonderful resident’s hub, where neighbours can come together to socialise. Here your parents can participate in as many activities as they choose as well as attend events throughout the year. If your mum and dad don’t drive, or no longer feel confident in a car, they can make use of our courtesy shuttle bus service. This bus will take them to do their weekly shop and for regular days out a little further afield.

Visit your parents whenever you choose

A retirement village is not the same as a retirement home. Your parents will own their own private home on the park and consequently can have visitors whenever they choose. This means extended family can visit at any time of day for as long as they like. Children, grandchildren and friends are more than welcome to stay for the night or a couple of days at your parent’s discretion.

Pet friendly residential park homes

We often hear from people whose family members are reluctant to move from their current home, because they’re worried that their beloved pet will not be allowed in a retirement community. Red Deer Village is proud to be pet friendly and welcomes residents who own a cat or dog. In fact, our over 50’s community is located in a fantastic position with a number of dog walks nearby. Your parents can spend leisurely afternoons exploring the local scenery with their four-legged friend.
